A head-on collision on Harbord Road has left one driver in hospital and another facing serious charges, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety on one of Freshwater’s busiest thoroughfares.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday afternoon around 4:30pm when a Land Rover Discovery collided with a Mazda CX3 along the main road that connects Freshwater to neighbouring suburbs.
Emergency services responded quickly to the scene, with paramedics transporting the 49-year-old Mazda driver to Northern Beaches Hospital for medical treatment.
Police investigations at the scene led to the arrest of the 53-year-old Land Rover driver, who now faces charges including driving with a middle-range prescribed concentration of alcohol.
The situation escalated further when additional charges were laid for allegedly assaulting a police officer during the incident.
Northern Beaches Police have suspended the woman’s driving licence, and she is scheduled to appear before Manly Local Court on 8 October to answer the charges.
